The desire to do something is a fascinating thought if you stop and think about it. You may have the want to do something but something else may be holding you back.
Recently I have been going through a lack of motivation for running. It’s hard to describe the general feeling of why but the desire to consistently run just is not there for me. In the past when these feelings have come up, I normally would sign up for a race and the fire is ignited back again. I don’t have a race until October so that maybe one factor. But I don’t think that is it either…
I recently bought a new running vests the Nathan Pinnacle and looking forward to my first run in that. I figured that may push me out the door a little more however I still struggle to lace up my shoes and get out the door. So I tried new shoes, I bought a new pair of New Balance but after a few runs in those and the feeling is still not there.
As I type out this post and start to peel back the layers of what’s going on, I’m reminded of the name of why I created Not Only Running. I want this site to be more that just about gear or runs or races. Don’t get it wrong, I love exploring those and sharing my thoughts about all that. This site is meant to explore a deeper meaning of why we run. And that is the whole point.
The Why?
You hear over and over about if you don’t have the why to do something you shouldn’t even do it. As I reflect on that I think about the other statement that is used quite a bit but still is impactful.

I get to run…
Life is interesting since you only get 1. You should hold moments closely. I need to flip the why around and say I get to do this beautiful thing called running. I get to put shoes on and shorts and shirt and go outside and run. My health is still there for me to do all this these things. By changing the why this may be enough for me to get back at it. I have a saying that so many people use. One day at a time or ODAAT. Follow along as I plan to share with you my runs and my thoughts about what is going on. I will start my training plan for the 24hr races in Oct and Nov. And maybe along the way I can give someone inspiration to others as I strive to push myself outside my comfort zone.
