I have several races in the coming months that I have barely properly trained for. Running has not been a priority for me during the summer months. My wife is a teacher and gets summer off, so we try to July and early August with vacations and day trips. In July we didn’t not spend a full weekend at home. We went to the beach then Pigeon Forge, TN and Washington, DC.

If we aren’t on vacations we are still exploring our great state of NC. Brittany and I were able to get a nice 4 mile run on our local greenway in Smithfield, NC. We go on has my oldest girl says adventures. We visited Umstead State Park and the little ones had a blast. The most they can handle is about mile but they love being outside.

Family is the most important priority to me. I want to be present and not miss these precious memories with my girls and wife. But in order for me to be the best dad and husband, I need to balance what I love too and that is running. It clears my head and I can ‘solve’ my problems. All this to say, I have started back consistent running and training. Last weekend I ran over 10miles between Saturday and Sunday for the first time since April. We recently bought a treadmill and I think that will help with building consistency too.
Upcoming Runs
Now starts the build up for my races in October and November. The first race is the Cape Fear 24hr run. I don’t plan to run for 24hrs but I do want to complete at least a 50k (32miles) distance and not injure myself. I will start to build my miles up in a safe way until race day on October 8th. I don’t have a specific time just to get that distance. Last year I completed 20miles. The timed event is a great way for a beginner since it takes away time nerves or pressure. The Cape Fear 24hr is approximately 0.5miles course so I’ll pass aid station every 0.5mile. Knowing this is such a mental relief since it takes a way the stress of how much food and water to carry.
Take a look at the video from last year.
After the Cape Fear run Medoc 10mile race. This is one my favorite races. Be on the look on training updates, gear I plan to wear and race reviews!
